Job Description
Please do NOT contact the office about this opening Position Overview We are seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team for four 10-hour shifts each week at our Valparaiso location, with potential to cover additional shifts at our other offices when needed. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient, patient-centered visits by assisting providers, documenting clinical encounters, and preparing for and supporting procedures. Primary Responsibilities Welcome and prepare patients for their visit, gathering health information. Serve as a scribe for the dermatologist or dermatology provider, accurately entering details of the visit into the electronic health record (EHR). Explain and obtain informed consent for procedures, and take clinical photographs as directed. Assist with a variety of in-office procedures under supervision, such as biopsies (punch and shave), excisions, I&D, Mohs micrographic surgery, injections, and patch testing. Provide thorough wound care instructions and post-procedure support to patients. Maintain logs for biopsies and lab tests, and ensure accurate scheduling of follow-up visits. Guide patients through EHR portal setup and usage. Keep exam rooms stocked, sterilize instruments, and ensure a clean, organized environment. Perform other clinical or administrative duties as assigned to support smooth office operations. Qualifications Completion of post-secondary education in a medical support field (Certified Medical Assistant preferred). At least one year of recent experience in a clinical setting; dermatology experience is required. Previous Mohs surgery experience is highly preferred and will be given strong consideration. Current certifications, licenses, and registrations must be maintained throughout employment. Willingness to work primarily at our Valparaiso location, with the flexibility to provide coverage at our Crown Point, Dyer, and Munster offices as needed. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment. Commitment to patient confidentiality and professional conduct. Physical Requirements Ability to position patients, give injections, draw blood, and handle specimens according to safety standards. Safely transport medical equipment between rooms. Stock and prepare rooms for patient care. Operate office equipment and communicate effectively in person and by phone in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
