CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Position Summary The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers in a fast-paced ambulatory clinic setting. The CMA assists with patient care, maintains accurate medical records, coordinates patient flow, and promotes a positive patient experience while ensuring compliance with all hospital, clinic, regulatory, and safety requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Care Room patients and prepare them for examination and treatment. Obtain and document patient vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medications, and medical history. Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments. Laboratory specimen collection, point-of-care testing, injections, immunizations, and other clinical duties within scope of practice and certification. Provide patient education and reinforce provider instructions regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care. Observe and report changes in patient condition to the provider. Administrative Responsibilities Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals as directed. Answer telephone calls, take messages, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members. Maintain accurate electronic medical records and documentation. Assist with prior authorizations, prescription refill requests, and patient correspondence. Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information. Clinic Operations Maintain exam rooms and treatment areas in a clean, stocked, and organized manner. Prepare and sterilize instruments according to established procedures. Monitor and restock medical supplies. Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report maintenance concerns. Follow infection prevention and control standards at all times. Customer Service Greet patients courteously and provide compassionate, professional service. Promote a patient-centered environment that reflects the organization's mission and values. Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information. Work collaboratively with providers, nurses, and support staff to ensure efficient clinic operations. Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. Certification Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe. Experience Previous experience in a physician office, clinic, or ambulatory care setting preferred. Experience with electronic medical records preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to multitask effectively in a busy clinic environment. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism. Proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer applications. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to perform clinical procedures and operate medical equipment. Visual and auditory acuity necessary to provide safe patient care. Work Environment Fast-paced outpatient clinic setting with frequent patient interaction. Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and other healthcare-related hazards. Use of personal protective equipment as required.
