Qualifications/Preferred Experience:
Completion of an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (ASCP PA or eligible, preferred) Prior experience working as a Laboratory or Pathology Assistant in an acute care, hospital, or clinical laboratory setting In-depth knowledge of grossing techniques, specimen handling, and laboratory safety protocols Familiarity with laboratory information systems and digital documentation Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, dissect, and gross surgical specimens under supervision of a pathologist Conduct specimen accessioning, tissue sampling, and ensure proper labeling Assist with and support autopsy examinations, including evisceration and organ dissection Maintain accurate records of laboratory procedures and findings Operate equipment such as cryostats, microtomes, and microscopes as needed Adhere strictly to infection control, laboratory safety standards, and confidentiality requirements Communicate findings and collaborate with pathologists, surgeons, and other medical staff Manage workflow in a high-volume laboratory environment efficiently This contract position offers a valuable opportunity to continue developing your expertise in pathology while contributing significantly to diagnostic services.
