Position Summary Works under the direction of physicians or nurse practitioners to assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The role involves performing clinical nursing procedures, managing patient care tasks, and directly participating in Quality Care. CMA must have a positive professional image, and serve as an exemplary representative of the clinic practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Care & Triage:

Triages patients, measures vital signs and weight, performs EKGs, conducts blood sugar checks, and administers injections using safety devices. Assists with wound care, bandaging, and patient infection-prevention education.

Documentation & Communication:

Uses proper medical terminology to ensure prompt, concise, and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR). Communicates frequently with providers regarding patient physical and mental conditions.

Medication Management:

Reconciles and refills medications, completes electronic refill requests, and properly documents injection lot numbers.

Administrative Coordination:

Orders and schedules tests, appointments, and procedures. Initiates timely authorization requests for procedures and surgeries, providing all necessary diagnoses and dates.

Quality & Compliance:

Implements, maintains, and adheres to Quality and HEDIS measures. Participates in OSHA training, manage body fluid/infection spills, operates eyewash stations, utilizes PPE correctly, and handles sharps disposal lockdown.

Team & Practice Support:

Trains and assists with onboarding new clinical personnel. Works as a floor nurse during staff shortages, handles patient care complaints, responds to clinical emergencies, and floats to other areas as requested by management.

Minimum Qualifications Education:

High school graduate preferred.

Certification:

Active, CMA certification and current CPR certification are required.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency with computers and hands-on experience working within an EMR/EHR system are required.

Experience:

Previous clinic or hospital experience with acceptable professional references is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical Capabilities:

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds . Requires balancing, bending, kneeling, pulling, positioning, pushing, reaching, and prolonged standing.

Sensory Requirements:

Finger/hand dexterity to manipulate medical equipment. Visual and aural acuity to detect immediate changes in a patient's condition.

Environment:

Fast-paced medical practice with a moderate-to-loud, sometimes stressful environment. Exposure to inside environmental conditions, bloodborne pathogens, and respiratory hazards (including COVID screening when applicable).

REQUIREMENTS

Medical Assistant certification preferred, Experience in a clinical setting preferred & Strong interpersonal skills
