Summary of Occupation:
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays an integral role in supporting high-quality patient care and efficient clinical operations within Park Medical Associates (PMA), a multi-specialty medical practice within Johns Hopkins Regional Physicians LLC. Working collaboratively with physicians and practice staff. The MA provides clinical and administrative support throughout the patient care experience. The MA is responsible for preparing patients for examinations, obtaining and documenting clinical information, assisting physicians with patient care and procedures, performing approved clinical tasks, supporting patient follow-up and care coordination. This position requires strong clinical skills, communication, organization, adaptability, and a commitment to providing safe, professional, and patient-centered care.

None General Responsibilities:
1. Provides professional, compassionate, and patient-centered support during interactions with patients, families, physicians, staff, and other healthcare professionals 2. Maintains patient confidentiality and protects patient information in accordance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory requirements 3. Maintains knowledge and competency in clinical workflows, infection prevention, patient safety, medical terminology, and procedures appropriate to the Medical Assistant role 4. Works collaboratively with physicians and practice staff to support efficient patient flow, continuity of care, and daily clinical operations 5. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, flexibility, initiative, and a team-oriented approach while supporting the clinical needs of the practice
Essential Functions:
1. Prepares patients for examination by obtaining and documenting vital signs, reviewing and updating medications, allergies, medical history, and other required clinical information within the electronic medical record (EPIC) 2. Prepares examination and procedure rooms, maintains appropriate clinical supplies and equipment, and supports efficient patient workflow throughout the practice 3. Assist physicians with examinations, chaperones, treatments, procedures, and specialty-specific clinical services within the Medical Assistant's training, competency, and authorized scope of practice 4. Performs approved clinical procedures and testing, including specimen collection, point-of-care testing, electrocardiograms, injections, immunizations, and other clinical services as trained, authorized, and applicable to the specialty-specific services 5. Communicates physician instructions and approved clinical information to patients and assists with the coordination of follow-up care, testing, referrals, and other patient needs as directed 6. Reviews and manages assigned electronic messages, clinical work queues, test results, patient communications, and other tasks within EPIC in accordance with established practice protocols 7. Supports medication and treatment-related workflows, including medication refill requests, medication prior authorizations, pharmacy communication, and other related tasks in accordance with established practice protocols 8. Assist with patient care programs, population health initiatives, quality measures, and other care coordination activities as assigned to support continuity of care and patient health outcomes 9. Maintains appropriate infection prevention and safety practices, including cleaning and preparing clinical areas, proper handling of specimens and medical supplies, and compliance with applicable clinical standards 10. Collaborate with physicians and other practice staff and provide coverage or assistance as needed to promote efficient workflow, quality patient care, and a positive patient experience 11. Complies with Johns Hopkins Regional Physician and Johns Hopkins Medicine policies, patient safety standards, regulatory requirements, and established practice procedures, and performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required 2. Successful completion of an accredited or recognized Medical Assistant training program is preferred or required in accordance with organization requirements 3. Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred or required in accordance with organization requirements 4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain certification within the time frame established by the organization 5. Previous experience in a physician practice, an outpatient medical office, or other healthcare setting preferred 6. General knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, infection prevention practices, and general physician practice workflows 7. Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred; EPIC experience preferred 8. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, families, physicians, staff members, insurance carriers, pharmacies, and other healthcare organizations 9. Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated attention to detail 10. Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, accountability, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a collaborative, multi-specialty medical office environment with regular interactions with patients, families, physicians, staff, and outside organizations. This position requires flexibility and the ability to effectively manage a variety of responsibilities and changing priorities throughout the day. Standard precautions are followed to maintain a safe and professional healthcare environment.
Physician Demands:
1. Work requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, and bending throughout the workday 2. Requires frequent use of computers, telephones, and other office equipment and may involve sitting at a workstation for extended periods 3. May occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 25 lbs
