You will provide high-level clinical support to our GI physicians and CRNAs, ensuring that every patient receives expert care from pre-procedure intake through recovery and discharge. Position Summary The Clinical Medical Assistant provides essential procedural support, manages GI-specific diagnostics (HBT/FibroScan), and ensures the integrity of clinical documentation. This role requires a focus on infection control, including specialized scope cleaning and room turnover, in a high-volume surgical environment. Core Responsibilities 1.
GI Intake & Clinical Preparation Patient Rooming:
Obtain vital signs and review chief complaints for GI-specific consultations.
Specialized Testing:
Perform Hydrogen Breath Testing (HBT) and FibroScan (once certified) as required.
Procedure Prep:
Ensure patients are correctly positioned and prepared for EGD or Colonoscopy procedures. 2.
Procedure & Sedation Support Physician Assistance:
Assist the GI physician and CRNA during procedures, maintaining a sterile field and readiness of supplies.
Safety Monitoring:
Continuously monitor patient vitals and comfort during sedation.
Recovery & Discharge:
Remove IVs, review post-procedure discharge instructions with patients and their escorts, and assist with safe transport to vehicles. 3.
Procedure Checklist Execution Verification:
Confirm procedural consents, insurance authorization, and completion of bowel prep or NPO status.
Intra-Procedure:
Track procedure timing and manage the collection of biopsies or polyps.
Specimen Care:
Label, package, and document all pathology samples in the EMR (Provation/Tebra) for lab send-out. 4.
GI Infection Control & Scope Reprocessing Scope Cleaning:
Perform manual pre-cleaning and high-level disinfection of endoscopes per strict GI-office protocols.
Room Turnover:
Disinfect procedure rooms and beds quickly to maintain efficient clinic flow.
Quality Control:
Report any equipment malfunctions or scope damage immediately to management. 5.
Clinical Documentation & Triage Triage Calls:
Document clinical phone calls in the EMR, capturing patient concerns, assessments provided, and physician escalations.
Patient Education:
Educate patients on complex bowel prep instructions and reinforce post-procedure care expectations.
Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Certification:
Medical Assistant (MA) Certification is required.
Experience:
Previous experience in a GI office, Endoscopy suite, or Surgical Center is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Provation and Tebra EMR systems is a major plus. Must have the ability to learn new clinical software quickly.
Resilience:
Ability to remain calm and organized in a high-pressure, high-volume procedural setting. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and move for long periods during procedure blocks. Capability to assist in patient positioning and transport. Manual dexterity for handling delicate GI scopes and biopsy tools.
Pay:
$15.00 - $19.00 per hour
