JOB TITLE/DESCRIPTION
Ophthalmic Medical Assistant (Part-Time) •On-the-job Education and Training for Career AdvancementGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
: We are seeking a dynamic professional to serve as a part-time Medical Assistant in our office-based-surgical center. Prior experience in ophthalmology is preferred but not required. This role requires strong attention to detail, medical knowledge and terminology, and a commitment to patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality.SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports to the Clinic Manager and/or Lead TechnicianESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patient Care & Clinical Support Prepare patients for in-office ophthalmic surgical procedures. Obtain and document patient history, medications, allergies, and vital signs. Educate patients on procedure expectations, pre-operative instructions, and post-operative care. Assist physicians and/or clinical staff during office-based surgical procedures, maintaining sterile technique. Apply dressings and monitor patients post-procedure. Surgical Center & Procedure Room Support Set up and break down procedure rooms according to surgical and infection control protocols. Ensure proper sterilization, cleaning, and handling of surgical instruments and equipment. Maintain accurate counts of surgical supplies and medications. Documentation & Compliance Accurately document procedures, patient responses, and physician instructions in the EHR. Ensure consent forms and surgical documentation are completed and filed appropriately. Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and safety standards. Support compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements for office-based surgical settings. Patient Flow & Coordination Coordinate patient flow before, during, and after procedures to maintain efficiency. Communicate effectively with physicians, clinical and administrative staff. Assist in scheduling surgical follow-ups and post-operative visits, as needed. Inventory & Equipment Management Monitor and restock surgical supplies, medications, and personal protective equipment. Report equipment malfunctions and assist with routine maintenance checks. Ensure exam and procedure rooms are fully stocked and ready for daily operations. Professional Conduct Provide compassionate, professional care to all patients and families. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Participate in ongoing training, competency assessments, and staff meetings. Support a team-oriented environment and uphold the values of the ophthalmology practice. Knowledge Basic knowledge of anatomy Awareness of safety precautions and emergency procedures Attention to details Excellent organizational skills Ability to communicate well with patients, physicians, co-workers, etc. Required High School graduate or equivalent Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or equivalent education, experience, or training Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to assist with patient positioning and transport. Manual dexterity to handle delicate surgical instruments. Environmental & working conditions Combination of office, exam and other clinical settings. Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to an ophthalmology clinic environment. Physical demand Requires standing or walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
