A Medical Assistant assists physicians and other medical specialists with routine administrative or clinical tasks. Organizes patient records, schedules appointments, and prepares medical equipment. May specialize in administrative or clinical work, or specialize in a particular area of medicine, i.e. assisting in the office of an ophthalmologist (eye specialist). Works in medical offices.
No regular weekend requirement; holiday coverage may be required Position Overview We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Medical Assistant II to support a Family Medicine practice in an outpatient care setting. The Medical Assistant II will provide a combination of clinical and administrative support, including obtaining vital signs, administering injections, performing basic diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, assisting with examinations and treatments, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment. The ideal candidate will have strong patient-care and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with providers, nursing staff, patients, and families. Key Responsibilities Greet and check in patients and notify the appropriate provider. Prepare patients, examination rooms, and equipment for procedures and examinations. Obtain, record, and communicate patient vital signs and clinical concerns to providers. Recognize patients requiring urgent attention and assist with appropriate emergency response. Assist physicians and other providers with examinations and treatments. Handle patient telephone calls within the appropriate scope of practice. Schedule appointments and procedures with medical professionals. Recognize limitations when addressing patient concerns by telephone and appropriately involve nursing staff or providers. Register new patients and establish medical records. Prepare patient billing information. Assist patients with insurance forms and other required documentation. Provide authorized information to third-party payors as appropriate. Instruct patients regarding preparation for specific procedures. Collect and process routine laboratory specimens. Perform blood draws, injections, and simple diagnostic tests as appropriate to training and scope of practice. Operate and maintain clinical equipment. Maintain appropriate aseptic technique, including sterilization, disinfection, and disposal of contaminated materials. Clean, wrap, and autoclave instruments according to established procedures. Maintain examination rooms, equipment, and supplies. Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program - Required. Current qualifying Medical Assistant certification/registration, including one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with the required 12-month apprenticeship program. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - Required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a physician office, outpatient clinic, or ambulatory care setting. Experience working in a Family Medicine environment. Familiarity with electronic medical records and routine outpatient clinical procedures.
