Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Pathology Assistant to join our dynamic laboratory team. In this vital role, you will support the pathology department by preparing tissue samples, assisting with laboratory procedures, and ensuring accurate specimen processing in accordance with clinical and research standards. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive laboratory experience, including histological techniques and pathology testing, to facilitate precise diagnosis and research outcomes. Responsibilities Prepare and process tissue samples for histological examination, including embedding, sectioning, and staining procedures Assist pathologists and laboratory technologists with specimen collection, processing, and documentation Perform laboratory tissue sectioning using microtomes or cryostats with precision to ensure optimal sample quality Conduct immunohistochemistry and other immunological techniques to support diagnostic testing Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration, cleaning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations to ensure compliance Document all procedures accurately within Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and maintain detailed records of sample processing Support quality control measures by monitoring reagent quality, tissue preservation, and staining consistency Assist in the preparation of tissue samples for research studies when applicable Adhere strictly to aseptic techniques during specimen handling to prevent contamination Collaborate effectively with medical personnel regarding specimen collection, patient care, and test results interpretation Skills Extensive experience in clinical or research laboratory settings specializing in pathology or histotechnology Proficiency in laboratory tissue sectioning, histological techniques, and laboratory tissue sample preparation Strong knowledge of pathology testing methods including immunohistochemistry and immunological assays Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) for data entry and sample tracking Experience with medical laboratory equipment such as microtomes, cryostats, microscopes, and staining machines Knowledge of medical terminology related to pathology and anatomy Understanding of CLIA regulations governing laboratory practices and patient safety standards Ability to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection/processing when required Competence in maintaining laboratory procedures according to SOPs while demonstrating attention to detail Basic physiology knowledge relevant to patient care and specimen handling processes Strong organizational skills combined with effective communication abilities suitable for diverse healthcare environments This position offers an opportunity for motivated individuals passionate about pathology and medical research.
