Medical Assistant Medical Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of patient care as defined by Stony Brook Southampton Hospital nursing philosophy. Under the guidance of the physician, nurse practitioner, physician Assistant, RN, or LPN, the Medical Assistant performs nursing functions in accordance with site-specific policies, procedures and establishes ethics of nursing care.JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant for our LGBTQ+ Healthcare Center with strong cultural competency and a commitment to serving LGBTQ+ communities. This role requires sensitivity, respect, and an understanding of the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. LGBTQ+ community members and allies are strongly encouraged to apply. Places patients in exam rooms, takes vital signs, makes notes in the medical chart of the patient, assists the physician, NP or PA as directed. Checks medical equipment daily, performs appropriate lab logs and maintains inventories. Administers EKGs and other in-house testing at the physician request and direction. Perform phlebotomy and prepare collection for laboratory. Assist with completion of lab paperwork and tracking. Schedule patient appointments, transportation, and coordinates referrals. Assist with grant program eligibility. Participate in continuous quality improvement. Assist with data entry for grant funding agencies. Perform additional duties as assigned.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Medical assistant certification or experience in outpatient, private physician's practice or clinical setting. Demonstrated Phlebotomy skills gained through Medical Assistant certification education or Phlebotomy Certification. Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire. Medical terminology knowledge. Computer skills required (Microsoft Office), accurate data entry. Must be detailed oriented with organizational skills. Excellent telephone and customer service skills. Ability to work well with other team members and departments. Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion and sound judgment. Additional duties as assigned.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
: Bilingual English/Spanish. HIV experience. As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.Special Notes :

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck! Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Employee Health Services- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
