Performs skilled clinical and clerical duties to support physicians and nursing staff in providing patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with patient examinations, performing routine clinical procedures, and completing administrative tasks. Work is performed under the supervision of a physician or licensed healthcare provider.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare patients for examination by obtaining and recording vital signs, medical history, and current medications. Assist physicians and nursing staff during examinations and procedures. Perform routine clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, injections, and basic laboratory testing. Maintain and update patient records accurately in the electronic medical record system. Schedule patient appointments, verify insurance, and assist with patient check-in and check-out procedures. Provide patient education and instructions as directed by the provider. Maintain exam rooms by cleaning, stocking supplies, and ensuring proper infection control procedures are followed. Handle telephone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to appropriate staff. Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care as needed. Assist in monitoring patient flow to ensure efficient clinic operations. Comply with all policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including HIPAA requirements. Performs related work as required. (Position may not include all duties listed, nor do the examples cover all duties which may be performed.)
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant certification is preferred but not required at time of hire; must be obtained within a reasonable timeframe after employment. Current CPR certification required. Basic knowledge of clinical and administrative procedures. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and maintain accuracy. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Bilingual preferred.
