We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team Texas Brain & Spine Neurosurgery This role involves supporting the neurosurgery team in providing excellent patient care, performing administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth daily operations. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Support:
Assist with patient exams: Prepare patients for neurosurgical consultations and follow-up visits, including taking vital signs, updating medical histories, and documenting symptoms.
Patient education:
Educate patients and families on preoperative instructions, postoperative care, and any neurological conditions.
Procedural assistance:
Assist the neurosurgeon during office-based procedures and surgeries by preparing instruments, handling sterile supplies, and providing surgical assistance.
Diagnostic testing:
Prepare patients for neuroimaging (e.g., MRIs, CT scans), electroencephalograms (EEGs), and other diagnostic tests as necessary.
Wound care:
Provide postoperative wound care and monitor for complications, following up on recovery.
Administrative Support:
Patient scheduling: Schedule patient appointments, follow-up visits, and surgery dates in coordination with the neurosurgery team.
Medical documentation:
Record patient information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring all notes and treatment plans are updated.
Insurance and authorization:
Assist with obtaining insurance authorizations for procedures, surgeries, and diagnostics.
Insurance billing:
Prepare billing documents, coding diagnoses and procedures according to the latest medical coding standards (CPT, ICD-10).
Record management:
Maintain and organize patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
Patient Care Coordination:
Patient communication: Provide updates to patients regarding appointments, test results, and follow-up care.
Surgical coordination:
Assist in preparing patients for surgery, ensuring they have all necessary information and preoperative instructions.
Follow-up:
Monitor patient progress post-surgery, ensure scheduled follow-ups, and assist patients with any concerns during recovery.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certifications:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is highly preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in a clinical or surgical setting, ideally within neurosurgery or a related field, is preferred but not mandatory.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with EHR software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other office equipment. Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly in neurosurgery.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, family members, and the medical team. Attention to
Detail:
Ability to handle sensitive patient information with accuracy and discretion.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry medical equipment or supplies (up to 25 lbs). Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Ability to assist in patient transfers as needed.
Work Environment:
This position will primarily take place in a clinical setting, working directly with patients, neurosurgeons, and other healthcare providers.
