About Us & the Position At Allergy & Asthma Care of Waco, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care to individuals living with allergies, asthma, and related conditions. Our goal is to help patients lead healthier, more comfortable lives while creating a supportive and collaborative workplace for our team. We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and proactive certified Medical Assistant to support both clinical care and front-office operations. Medical assistants are trained as versatile healthcare professionals who perform both clinical and administrative responsibilities. This position reflects that full scope. The successful candidate must be equally prepared to provide hands-on clinical support and perform medical receptionist duties based on daily patient and operational needs. This is not an exclusively back-office position. Regular responsibilities include patient check-in, appointment scheduling, answering telephones, managing patient communications, collecting payments, and supporting front-desk workflow in addition to rooming patients, documenting clinical information, administering injections, and assisting providers. Certification Requirement A current Medical Assistant certification from a nationally recognized certifying organization is mandatory.
Acceptable credentials include:
CMA (AAMA) CCMA (NHA) RMA (AMT) Another comparable, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification approved by the practice Applicants who do not hold a current qualifying Medical Assistant certification will not be considered. What You Will Do Clinical Care and Provider Support Greet, room, and prepare patients for examinations, testing, and treatment. Obtain and accurately document vital signs, medical histories, symptoms, medications, and clinical updates. Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with examinations, procedures, diagnostic testing, and treatments. Prepare and administer medications and injections as directed and within applicable scope-of-practice requirements. Support allergy immunotherapy operations, including injection workflows, patient monitoring, documentation, and assigned serum-related processes. Provide patients with clear instructions, education, reassurance, and compassionate support. Process prescription refill requests and other clinical communications as directed. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record. Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain examination rooms, clinical equipment, and supplies. Recognize and promptly communicate abnormal findings, patient concerns, safety issues, or changes in condition. Front-Office and Medical Reception Responsibilities Serve as a welcoming and professional point of contact for patients and visitors. Check patients in and out, verify demographic and insurance information, and obtain required forms and documentation. Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments. Answer incoming telephone calls, respond to routine questions, document messages, and route clinical or administrative matters appropriately. Collect and accurately document copayments, balances, and other patient payments. Manage incoming faxes, email, electronic medical record messages, and other correspondence with timely follow-through. Contact late or missing patients and assist with daily appointment-confirmation and reminder workflows. Help patients understand basic scheduling, balance, and insurance information while directing complex matters to the appropriate team member. Maintain an organized, professional, and patient-focused reception area. Communicate proactively with clinical staff to support efficient patient flow and minimize delays. Team and Operational Support Rotate among clinical, immunotherapy, and front-office assignments based on the needs of the practice. Remain attentive and productive throughout the workday, including during changes in patient volume or workflow. Anticipate patient, provider, and team needs and offer assistance without waiting to be directed. Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, safety requirements, clinic policies, and professional standards. Contribute to a respectful, accountable, and collaborative workplace. Required Qualifications Current Medical Assistant certification from a nationally recognized certifying organization High school diploma or equivalent At least one year of experience in a clinical or medical-office environment Experience using an electronic health record or electronic medical record system Ability and willingness to perform both clinical and medical receptionist responsibilities Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation Excellent patient-service, telephone, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to prioritize and move effectively between clinical care, front-desk duties, and administrative tasks Reliable attendance and ability to work the assigned onsite schedule Preferred Qualifications Experience in allergy, asthma, immunology, or another specialty medical practice Experience administering injections Experience with allergy immunotherapy workflows Experience with patient scheduling, registration, payment collection, insurance verification, or other medical front-office functions Conversational Spanish What Success Looks Like A successful Medical Assistant in this position: Provides safe, accurate, and compassionate patient care. Creates a welcoming and professional experience from check-in through completion of the visit. Moves comfortably between clinical and front-office responsibilities. Communicates clearly with patients, providers, pharmacies, and coworkers. Maintains accurate documentation and follows through on assigned work. Anticipates needs and helps prevent workflow delays. Remains composed, organized, and patient-focused during busy periods. Demonstrates teamwork, accountability, adaptability, and sound judgment. Work Environment This is an onsite, patient-facing position in a fast-paced specialty medical practice. The role involves frequent standing, walking, sitting, computer and telephone use, direct patient interaction, and movement between clinical and front-office areas.
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 38.0 per week
