Our Retina practice is hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician to assist the physicians in providing quality eye care. We are looking for a friendly, professional, experienced, and responsible individual for this position. The applicant should have a can-do attitude, work well with patients and office staff, multitask, and be a team player. You will be responsible for assisting retina doctors during examinations, operating specialized ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, and maintaining strict adherence to clinical confidentiality policies. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will contribute to a positive patient experience and the overall success of our practice. Experience preferred, but we are willing to train a motivated individual.

The role will require:

Greeting patients and being friendly at all times. Obtaining accurate medical history. Dilating eye/check vision. Performing Diagnostic testing. Perform OCT and other diagnostic tests. Maintain proper supply levels of necessary supplies at all clinic locations. Assist clinical staff with patient workups when schedules require it. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and healthcare guidelines. Other duties requested and/or assigned.

Responsibilities Perform intake procedures by collecting patient histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) accurately. Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation to support diagnosis and treatment planning. Conduct ophthalmic examinations including eye refraction, tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure), A-scan biometry, and other diagnostic imaging using ophthalmic equipment. Assist with ophthalmology-specific procedures like slit-lamp exams, visual acuity testing, and maintaining proper aseptic technique during clinical tasks. Operate medical equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of devices such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) machines or other diagnostic tools. Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies at all times. Provide excellent patient service through clear communication, compassionate care, and ensuring patients feel comfortable throughout their visit.

Requirements:

Familiarity with ophthalmology or optometry practices, including ophthalmic patient examinations and diagnostic imaging equipment. (Will train if no prior experience) Proficiency in EMR/EHR management for accurate documentation of patient information and medical records. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy related to the eye, and ophthalmic diagnostic techniques such as tonometry and eye refraction. Ability to perform direct patient care with professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail. Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance, medical records management, and maintaining clinical confidentiality policies. Experience operating medical equipment related to eye care and understanding of optical principles is preferred. Excellent organizational skills including retail math for inventory management or billing processes is a plus.
