Job Description

Job Title:

OVERVIEW
Responsible for providing support to the nursing staff, Mid-Level Providers, Medical and Specialty Clinics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs laboratory and screening tests.
  • Performs IM, SQ, and intradermal injections.
  • Changes dressings of wounds and insertion sites.
  • Applies and removes orthopedic splints if indicated; assists with instruction in use of crutches, walker, and/or wheelchair.
  • Operates diagnostic equipment to record tests such as electrocardiogram.
  • Prepares patient for provider. Records patient data including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. Records pertinent health history.
  • Reviews patient medication list and initiates refills as needed.
  • Performs CPR and First Aid.
  • Collects by non-invasive techniques, and preserves specimen testing, including urine, sputum, stool, and tissue samples.
  • Performs phlebotomy and prepares blood samples for transport to lab.
  • Performs daily control checks on glucometer and refrigerators, monitors recharging of defibrillator, pulse oximeter, and EKG machine.
  • Sends information for referrals to outside physicians, therapists, diagnostic procedures, and tests.
  • Monitors and tracks results from outside referrals and diagnostic tests to ensure that reports, referral notes, etc. are received in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining lab supplies and general oversight of lab
  • Cleans equipment in exam rooms after clinic. Restocks supplies.
  • Changes red bags as necessary and places in pick up boxes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Clinic Coordinator.
  • Keeps Clinic Coordinator and Mid-Level Provider informed on significant patient issues.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of medical assistance.
  • Current Virginia Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • CPR certification.
  • Must have computer knowledge in the use of electronic health records (or databases).
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Warm, outgoing personality, with the ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with people of all backgrounds. 2. Ability to work well under pressure. 3. Ability to multi-task and to prioritize work. 4. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
