Job Description

General Summary Under the direct supervision of the Administrator, Director of Nursing (DON) and/or other designated supervisor, the role of the Medical Assistant at Wellspring Health Access including Laboratory and exam and/or operating room setup. The specifics of each area are described below. Responsible for assisting the physicians and patients before, during and after surgical procedures. They are also responsible for introducing themselves to the patient and greeting the patient and preparing them for their procedure. They are responsible for checking the ID band of each patient prior to procedure to confirm her name, date of birth, allergies, and procedure type. This position is most crucial to ensuring a safe, secure, calm, and confident as well as friendly environment by consistently wearing a smile. The MA performs routine tests in the medical laboratory to provide data used in all aspects of the plan and treatment of the patient prior to surgery including pregnancy testing, RH blood typing, hemoglobin levels, and vital signs related to pre-operative assessment. Responsible for inputting correct patient data and billing information into the electronic patient record. The Medical Assistant will also be responsible for administrative duties such as answering the phone and scheduling patients, checking patients in, taking patient payments, and other duties as assigned. The Medical Assistant adheres to principles of Service Care and the philosophy and mission of Wellspring Health Access in all aspects of job performance. An employee may be requested to perform physical actions not specifically identified in this job description. Qualifications Prior related experience preferred. Able to perform a variety of duties and adjust to frequent change. Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a health care environment. Able to communicate effectively with patients and all members of the health care team. Prior related experience in abortion care preferred. Unequivocally pro-choice. Physical Requirements The Medical Assistant must be able to function effectively under stressful situations in a fast-paced environment. Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of the Medical Assistant Job Description, including frequent walking, bending, sitting, standing, and lifting. Knowledge of body mechanics necessary and uses appropriate safety transfer techniques and body mechanics when moving, transporting, etc., of patients or equipment, sometimes more than fifty pounds. Will assist with sedated patient transfer from OR to Recovery. Also understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, internal and external, which may affect the workplace, such as infectious disease, chemical, and/or chemical fumes, dust, noise, physical injury from an out-of-control patient and adverse effects of inclement weather which may occur.

$17.00 - $22.00 per hour
