Position Coder (Facility) Location Beaufort Memorial Hospital Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Shift Days Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Description Beaufort Memorial is seeking an experienced hospital coder with strong knowledge of both ICD-10-PCS and CPT coding. This position is responsible for accurately coding diagnoses and procedures for acute-care inpatient and outpatient hospital services, including psychiatric, rehabilitation and other assigned accounts. The coder reviews medical record documentation, assigns ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes as appropriate, and ensures coding is complete, accurate and compliant with official coding guidelines. Responsibilities also include assigning the appropriate MS-DRG for inpatient accounts and APC for outpatient accounts. The successful candidate will have recent inpatient hospital coding experience and be able to work independently without extensive inpatient coding training.Position Requirements Requirements Education:
Post-high school education in health information management, medical coding or related healthcare subjects required. Coursework should include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS andCPT/HCPCS
coding.Experience:
A minimum of one year of recent acute-care inpatient hospital coding experience is required. Demonstrated experience assigning ICD-10-CM andICD-10-PCS
codes and MS-DRGs is required. Knowledge ofCPT/HCPCS
coding and outpatient reimbursement methodologies is required. Experience reviewing medical records and provider documentation to support accurate code and DRG assignment is required. Experience using coding encoder and abstracting software is required. Experience coding psychiatric or inpatient rehabilitation services is preferred. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel is preferred.Certifications/Licenses:
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification through AHIMA is preferred. RHIT or RHIA certification may be accepted with demonstrated acute-care inpatient coding experience.
