Job Description

MEDICAL RECORDS REVIEWER
  • PHYSICIAN We are hiring experienced physicians to review medical and psychological records for disability claimants as part of the District of Columbia's Disability Determination Division.
This is critical work in the Social Security disability determination process. You will conduct comprehensive clinical assessments of complex medical cases and provide expert recommendations that directly impact claimants' access to benefits.
Available hours:
Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.
  • 11:00 p.
m. EST (flexible scheduling). Work full-time, part-time, or fee-for-service.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review medical and psychological records for disability claimants within 2 hours of assignment
  • Assess impairment severity and functional limitations against SSA Listing of Impairments criteria
  • Complete detailed medical review reports with clinical findings and consultative exam recommendations
  • Provide independent clinical judgment on whether evidence supports disability determination
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and federal privacy compliance
  • Communicate findings to Disability Claim Examiners
  • Participate in SSA disability standards training and quality assurance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • M.D. or D.O. with valid District of Columbia medical license
  • Board certification or board eligible (any specialty)
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical medical experience
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex medical information quickly
  • Professional communication and commitment to treating claimants with dignity
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior disability determination program experience (Social Security, workers' compensation)
  • Familiarity with SSA Program Operations Manual System (POMS)
  • Occupational or functional capacity assessment experience
  • Bilingual fluency (Spanish preferred)
