Company Overview Palmetto Surgery Center is a privately owned outpatient surgical facility that has been serving the community since 2000. With a focus on ENT, pediatric dentistry, and cataract procedures, we pride ourselves on our excellent reputation and commitment to patient care. Our facility features five operating rooms and operates Monday through Friday. Summary We are seeking a Coding Specialist to join our team at Palmetto Surgery Center. This role is essential in ensuring accurate coding and billing for our surgical procedures. The Coding Specialist will contribute significantly to our operational efficiency and help maintain our high standards of patient care. Responsibilities Collect daily billing sheets from the clinical areas. Verify accuracy of CPT codes after reviewing operative notes and follow up as needed with physician's office. Enter the daily charges into the computer. Transmit claims to insurance carriers. Hard copy the bill for cosmetic self pay surgeries to the physician's office for payment prior to the surgery. Enter charges for cosmetic cases without an insurance component. Send patient statements on a weekly basis. Assist with AR research from insurance companies and patients. Check EOB's for accuracy, as needed for coverage. Update CPT codes and charge master as directed by the COO. Perform the state budget reports and sales tax reports on a monthly basis by the first of the month. Assist with collections with general billing questions. Correct and re-bill any rejected claims. Any charges going hard copy are printed and mailed with attachments. Assist the COO with various special projects as needed. Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to facility policy and HIPAA guidelines Other duties as assigned. Requirements Certified as a professional coder Proven experience in medical coding, preferably in an outpatient surgical setting. Strong understanding of medical terminology and billing processes. Familiarity with ICD-10 coding systems. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
