In this role, you will serve as a key liaison between healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to ensure timely and accurate preauthorization of procedures. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will help facilitate seamless patient care while maintaining compliance with industry regulations such as HIPAA. Duties Review medical records, clinical notes, and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for preauthorization requests Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including managed care plans, to facilitate approval processes Collaborate with healthcare providers to gather necessary information for authorization submissions Utilize medical coding skills, including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems, to accurately document procedures and diagnoses Prepare and submit preauthorization requests via electronic systems or fax, ensuring completeness and accuracy Track the status of pending authorizations, follow up with insurance carriers as needed, and document all interactions thoroughly Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines by safeguarding patient information during all stages of the process Skills Strong knowledge of insurance plans to include website access, insurance verification processes, and medical billing procedures Experience working in a medical office or healthcare environment with familiarity in medical terminology and medical records management Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and medical coding best practices Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests simultaneously while meeting deadlines Effective communication skills for liaising with healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and patients Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and compliance in handling protected health information (PHI) Prior experience in dental or other specialty medical offices is a plus This role is ideal for motivated individuals eager to contribute to efficient healthcare operations.
