An Emergency Medical Director within emergency medical services is a physician who provides guidance, leadership, oversight and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for the practice of local EMTs and paramedics within a predefined area. Typically board-certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. Generally responsible for either the creation of protocols for treatment by prehospital providers or providing leadership to the group of physicians who assist with the provision of medical oversight depending on which model of service delivery and which model of medical control are operating.

Job Description

Overview The Director is a front line manager designated as the leader for the department, its patient population and assigned staff. She/he has twenty-four hour accountability for all patient care activities, department operation and staff function. The Director is also responsible for the organization, planning, direction, administration, and evaluation of services in areas of responsibility. Serves on committees as needed. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications Education:
Graduate of an accredited Professional School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
License:
RN license to practice in the State of Alabama or Compact Licensure Agreement. Current BLS certification. Current ACLS certification.
Experience:
5 years experience in Cardiovascular Services/Cath Lab. 2 years Supervisory experience.
