Job Description

Hospice Medical Director (MD / DO) PRN Position Summary Meadowlark Hospice is hiring a PRN Medical Director. The Hospice Medical Director provides overall medical leadership, direction, and clinical oversight for our hospice care program. This physician ensures high-quality, patient-centered, and compassionate end-of-life care while maintaining compliance with state and federal Medicare regulations. The Medical Director acts as a key resource and leader for the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), collaborating closely with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and attending physicians.
Key Responsibilities Medical Direction & Oversight:
Provide overall medical authority and guidance for the clinical care of all hospice patients. Interdisciplinary Group (IDG)
Leadership:
Actively participate in IDG meetings, guiding and reviewing individualized patient care plans, symptom management, and pain control strategies.
Certifications & Recertifications:
Review and sign off on initial certifications and recertifications of terminal illness in strict compliance with Medicare guidelines.
Quality & Compliance:
Partner with administrative leadership to monitor patient safety, clinical quality outcomes, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
Community & Professional Liaison:
Serve as an ambassador for the hospice program within the local medical community, building relationships with referral sources, hospitals, and attending physicians.
Staff & Physician Mentorship:
Provide education, guidance, and clinical mentorship to hospice nurses, staff, and community physicians regarding palliative care best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
Licensure:
Unrestricted medical license in the state of [State Name], or eligibility to obtain one.
Board Certification:
Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) is strongly preferred. Certification by the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board (HMDCB) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of [2-5] years of clinical experience, with prior experience in hospice, palliative care, or healthcare administration/leadership.
Knowledge Base:
