An Emergency Medical Director within emergency medical services is a physician who provides guidance, leadership, oversight and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for the practice of local EMTs and paramedics within a predefined area. Typically board-certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. Generally responsible for either the creation of protocols for treatment by prehospital providers or providing leadership to the group of physicians who assist with the provision of medical oversight depending on which model of service delivery and which model of medical control are operating.

Ensures department processes adhere to JCAHO, licensing agencies and other regulatory standards. Assures that patient/staff rights are protected and utilize appropriate resources for resolving ethical dilemmas. Incorporates patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision making and organizational action. Sets and enforces high standards to assure customer satisfaction. Develop and maintains relationships with local EMS staff. Identify and implement operational changes needed to ensure acceptable emergency department metrics. Performs patient care staffing as needed to expedite patient care flow. Assures efficient patient throughput through the Emergency Department. Assures compliance with benchmarks for evidence based care. Oversees all Nursing patient care services and medical operations (first aid stations and other care centers) at events sponsored by AdventHealth. Establishes and maintains knowledge as well as adherence to the Sponsorship Agreement between AdventHealth, Kansas Speedway, NASCAR and affiliates.
