An Emergency Medical Director within emergency medical services is a physician who provides guidance, leadership, oversight and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for the practice of local EMTs and paramedics within a predefined area. Typically board-certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. Generally responsible for either the creation of protocols for treatment by prehospital providers or providing leadership to the group of physicians who assist with the provision of medical oversight depending on which model of service delivery and which model of medical control are operating.

The Emergency Service Head role offers a unique blend of clinical practice and leadership, allowing you to directly impact patient care while mentoring and supporting your ER clinician team. This position provides the opportunity to shape the ER service through scheduling, hiring, and training decisions, lead team meetings, and represent the ER department in hospital leadership. Working closely with the Medical Director, you'll play a key role in ensuring high-quality patient care and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
