Summary:
The primary focus of Next Steps' programs in New Hampshire is in fostering the clients' ability to become autonomous, competent, and connected with others across all areas of their functioning. Next Steps Community Services residential programs serve individuals with developmental disabilities, ages 21 years old and over who have been identified as high risk-high need. Typically, these individuals have experienced considerable adversity and traumatic experiences in their lives. The individuals we serve have challenging behaviors including problematic sexual behaviors, forensic involvement, fire setting behaviors, and situational aggressive behaviors towards others and/or property. Each program challenges and assists each individual to become more productive and active members of their community. Next Steps offers onsite services and support provided by highly trained staff. This includes an array of services to enhance the quality of life for each person served. Individualized clinical and behavioral treatment; counseling services; independent living skill development; vocational/educational skill development; and relationship-oriented coaching, mentoring, and teaching are the staples offered at this program. Further, staff-facilitated groups emphasizing self-care and social skills serve as a platform for our more specialized treatment services. With clinical supervision from our Clinical Director, the milieu clinician is responsible for the delivery of clinically focused milieu support to individuals receiving supports in our program and to also provide direct therapy to specific residents, as assigned. The milieu clinician also supports staff by educating and guiding them with respect to clinical needs of the individuals we serve, including developing an awareness of their service agreement goals. The milieu clinician serves on the internal treatment team but is not a primary external spokesperson for the program. The required schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday (day shift hours) and participation in our rotating emergency on call schedule.
General Responsibilities:
1. Provide individual, group therapy and additional clinical/behavioral services as assigned. 2. Implement training to develop the clinical skills of residential supervisors and direct care staff. 3. Research, develop and teach social, interpersonal and relationships skills to individuals, and also strategies and approaches for staff to also do so. 4. Participate as a member of a residential team to plan, develop, and implement services to individuals. This includes spending time on the floor working directly with staff and individuals to educate both on goals and strategies to achieve. 5. Document therapy provided, collateral contacts and other client related services such as informal observations and milieu counseling efforts within a timely matter for billing purposes. 6. Document minutes of all meetings attended on behalf of program / individual served. 7. Meet regularly with Clinical Director, Senior Clinician, and medication prescriber to enhance knowledge base. 8. With guidance from the Clinical Director, take steps to further develop self professionally through training in relevant evidence based and informed practices. 9. Perform such other duties as assigned by Clinical Director and/or Senior Clinician. 10. Maintain general understanding on all aspects of individual's care and treatment through close dialogue with the Treatment Team.
