As part of Penn State, the system is proud of its heritage and identity—boldly represented by "We Are Penn State." What began as a single academic medical center in 1970 has grown into a comprehensive, people-first health system that includes multiple hospitals, nearly 200 outpatient practices and a workforce of ~22,000 full-time employees. Penn State Health delivers high-quality, patient-centered care across a wide range of specialties, including cancer, cardiovascular, neurosciences, orthopedics and women's health - serving a diverse patient population across 15 counties in central Pennsylvania. Penn State Health Medical Group Penn State Health Medical Group is the newly unified physician enterprise of Penn State Health, bringing together the system's academic and community-based practices within a common organizational and governance framework. The enterprise was formed from three historically separate employed physician groups and now comprises more than 2,000 providers, one of the largest employed physician enterprises in Pennsylvania. Position Summary Penn State Health seeks a transformational physician executive to lead the continued evolution of its newly integrated medical group. Reporting to Dr. Kenneth Wood, Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, the Chief Physician Executive and President of Penn State Health Medical Group will serve as the senior clinical leader of a complex, multispecialty physician enterprise spanning academic and community-based practices across the health system. The President and Chief Physician Executive (CPE) serves as the senior physician leader for Penn State Health Medical Group and is accountable for the strategic, operational, financial and cultural performance of the physician enterprise. The CPE leads the development and advancement of the unified medical group, ensuring alignment between academic and community-based care delivery, fostering physician integration and driving performance across ambulatory and inpatient services. The CPE will guide the medical group's transition from organizational consolidation to a fully integrated operating model, creating greater alignment across physician strategy, governance, compensation, productivity, workforce planning, access, quality and clinical service delivery. Working across a highly matrixed organization, this leader will translate enterprise strategy into measurable results, build trust among clinical and administrative stakeholders, and establish greater consistency, accountability and collaboration while advancing Penn State Health's clinical, academic and research missions. This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished physician executive to shape the future of a growing academic health system by building a high-performing, integrated physician enterprise that advances access, quality, clinical excellence, growth and long-term organizational success. The successful candidate will be an accomplished and respected physician executive with progressive leadership experience in a large academic health system, integrated delivery network, multispecialty medical group or similarly complex health care organization. A collaborative, credible and execution-oriented leader, the CPE will have the strategic perspective, financial acumen and relationship-building skills necessary to influence across a complex organization and deliver sustainable results. Education A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is required, as is board certification in an AMBS or AOA-recognized specialty. This individual must also possess an active, unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license or eligibility for licensure. An advanced degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, MMM, or equivalent) is preferred.
