Job Description
About Clarent Behavioral Health Clarent Behavioral Health is a new outpatient substance use disorder treatment program launching in Charlotte, NC. We provide Partial Hospitalization (PHP/SACOT) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP/SAIOP) care for adults, with integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions, built to Joint Commission accreditation standards. Clarent is led by an experienced ownership and operations team with a long track record of building and running licensed treatment programs. We are building this one to a genuine medical-necessity standard from day one. The Role We are seeking a part-time Medical Director (MD or DO) to provide medical leadership and serve as the program's prescribing physician. This is a part-time, 1099 contract role well suited to a physician who wants meaningful clinical impact in addiction medicine on a flexible, limited schedule alongside other practice commitments. As Medical Director, you provide the medical oversight the program requires and serve as the primary prescriber for medication-assisted treatment (MAT), working alongside the Clinical Director and clinical team. Clarent prescribes MAT but does not administer or dispense on-site, clients fill prescriptions at their pharmacy. This is an office-based, prescribe-and-manage model, not a dispensing operation. What You'll Do Serve as the program's Medical Director, providing medical oversight of the SACOT and SAIOP levels of care Serve as the primary MAT prescriber (buprenorphine and naltrexone products) for appropriate clients Conduct face-to-face medical assessments of clients, including regular assessments for clients at the SACOT (PHP) level, consistent with payer medical-necessity and utilization review expectations Write and review service orders and support medical-necessity documentation Provide medical consultation to the clinical team and support coordination with clients' other providers Support medication reconciliation and documentation standards consistent with Joint Commission requirements Contribute to clinical policies and quality standards from a medical perspective Be available for medical consultation on a defined, part-time schedule What You Bring (Required) Active NC license as an MD or DO, in good standing DEA registration with Schedule III authority and eligibility to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (consistent with current federal requirements) Comfort and clinical judgment in prescribing MAT for substance use disorders Understanding of outpatient SUD treatment and the medical oversight role in a licensed program Strongly Preferred Experience in addiction medicine and MAT prescribing ASAM membership or addiction medicine certification Experience serving as a Medical Director or prescribing physician in a PHP/IOP or outpatient SUD program Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and NC DHSR (10A
