Job Description AbbVie Oncology is seeking an experienced Scientific Director or Senior Medical Director to lead the Global Medical Affairs Precision Medicine strategy across the oncology portfolio. This role will be responsible for building global medical capabilities that advance biomarker implementation, companion diagnostics, digital pathology, artificial intelligence, and emerging diagnostic technologies to support both marketed products and pipeline assets. The successful candidate will collaborate across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Precision Medicine, Commercial, HEOR, Regulatory, and International teams to drive innovative precision medicine strategies that improve patient identification and access to targeted therapies. Position is based at our headquarters in Mettawa, IL following a hybrid schedule of 3 days/week onsite. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute the Global Medical Affairs Precision Medicine strategy supporting AbbVie's oncology portfolio. Build scalable capabilities in companion diagnostics, biomarkers, digital pathology, AI-enabled diagnostics, liquid biopsy, and emerging technologies. Establish strategic partnerships with IVD companies, pathology societies, academic institutions, reference laboratories, and technology partners. Build and lead Precision Medicine Field Medical capabilities, including biomarker-focused Medical Science Liaisons and pathology engagement strategies. Lead global evidence generation, medical education, scientific communications, and pathology congress strategies supporting biomarker adoption. Partner cross-functionally to ensure diagnostic strategies are integrated into clinical development and commercialization plans. Evaluate emerging technologies and external collaborations that strengthen AbbVie's precision medicine capabilities. Serve as the Medical Affairs precision medicine representative on global cross-functional teams and provide scientific leadership to internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications Position will be commensurate with experience. Scientific Director Advanced Degree PhD or PharmD. Additional post doctorate experience highly preferred. Typically, 10-15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related. 7-10 years of experience in Medical Affairs with Global Medical Affairs experience highly preferred. Senior Medical Director Medical Doctorate (M.D.) or equivalent (D.O. or non-US equivalent of M.D.). Relevant therapeutic specialty in an academic or hospital environment preferred. Completion of residency and/or fellowship preferred. Minimum 2 years of clinical trial or medical affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry or academia or equivalent. 5 years of experience is preferred.
