Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth is an 851 licensed bed, Magnet-designated facility and a major tertiary referral center serving Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and communities across North Texas. With more than 90 years of service, the hospital provides advanced care across trauma, cardiovascular services, neurosciences, surgery, and women's services. Within Texas Health Forth Worth market, it serves as a key high-acuity hospital and regional destination for complex care. The hospital is a Comprehensive Level I Trauma Facility designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services and verified by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. This designation reflects the hospital's ability to provide 24-hour, in-house trauma surgery coverage and access to specialists across orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, radiology, plastic surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, vascular surgery, and thoracic surgery. Texas Health Harris Methodist first achieved Level I status in 2023 and was redesignated and reverified in 2026. Texas Health Harris Methodist also holds advanced national certifications in several complex clinical programs. It is the only hospital in Tarrant County with The Joint Commission's Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification and one of fewer than 30 hospitals nationwide to hold that distinction. Its cardiac program includes 24-hour emergency services, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, vascular surgery, heart failure management, cardiac rehabilitation, and outpatient device services. The hospital has earned Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association for four consecutive certification cycles. It was the first hospital in Fort Worth to receive the designation and remains the only Joint Commission-certified Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center in Tarrant County. Jared Shelton, President, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth Amy Papst, M.D (dotted line), Chief Quality and Medical Officer, Hospital Channel Purpose of the Position The Chief Quality and Medical Officer has the ability to shape the next chapter of clinical excellence at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, an 851-bed tertiary referral center with significant offerings across trauma, neurosciences, cardiovascular care, surgery, and graduate medical education. The hospital's evolution into a Level I trauma center, its differentiated comprehensive stroke and cardiovascular capabilities, and its expanding GME platform have strengthened its position as a high-acuity regional destination. Looking ahead, Texas Health Harris Methodist intends to further distinguish its tertiary services, develop select quaternary programs, recruit physicians who can accelerate program growth, and expand the learning environment needed to support the region's future healthcare workforce. As the senior physician voice and a trusted member of the executive leadership team, the CQMO will be central to this next phase. Working closely with the hospital President, nursing leadership, the medical staff, and system colleagues, this leader will help translate ambition into measurable progress by strengthening quality, safety, clinical performance, and the patient experience; deepening physician engagement; expanding GME and fellowship opportunities; supporting physician recruitment and service-line development; and reinforcing a strong physician-nursing partnership. Key Responsibilities Quality, Safety and Performance Improvement Set and execute a comprehensive strategy to improve clinical quality, patient safety, clinical outcomes, and the patient experience, aligning hospital priorities with Texas Health system goals. Serve as executive sponsor for performance improvement and high reliability, using data to identify opportunities, reduce avoidable harm, and sustain measurable gains. Oversee quality, risk management, infection prevention, regulatory readiness, and the response to serious safety events. Ensure physicians and medical staff leaders receive timely, accurate performance data and guidance on CMS requirements, value-based care, public reporting, and emerging clinical standards. Clinical Operations and Care Transformation Provide executive oversight of care management, including patient flow, length of stay, timely discharge, avoidable readmissions, utilization management, and total cost of care. Partner with nursing, case management, performance improvement, and physician leaders to advance standardized clinical pathways, protocols, order sets, and evidence-based practice. Evaluate new technology, programs, and clinical investments based on patient need, evidence, quality, safety, and strategic value. Support clinical informatics and the effective use of data and technology to improve care delivery. Medical Staff Leadership and Physician Engagement Build trusted, visible relationships with employed and independent physicians, medical staff leaders, nursing leaders, hospital employees, and community partners. Serve as a two-way bridge between the medical staff and executive team, communicating decisions transparently, surfacing physician perspectives, and building alignment around shared priorities. Mentor and develop physician leaders; establish clear expectations and accountability with department chairs, the Medical Executive Committee, and other medical staff leaders. Oversee medical affairs, including credentialing and privileging, bylaws, peer review, medical staff committees, and the adjudication of significant quality and safety matters. Physician Recruitment, Program Development and Growth Partner with the hospital President and clinical leaders to recruit, orient, engage, and retain physicians who advance the hospital's quality, access, service-line, and growth priorities. Help shape differentiated tertiary and select quaternary programs, translating community and workforce needs into physician recruitment and clinical development strategies. Support physician contracting and ensure recruitment and program-development decisions reflect clinical quality, cultural alignment, and strategic need. Graduate Medical Education and Academic Development Lead the hospital's GME strategy in partnership with system academic leadership, balancing educational excellence, patient care, and long-term workforce development. Expand residency and fellowship opportunities, including support for the hospital's emerging fellowship platform. Strengthen the hospital's learning environment and relationships with academic partners, faculty, residents, and fellows. Enterprise Leadership and Strategy Contribute actively to hospital strategy, budgeting, capital planning, and the development of new clinical initiatives, facilities, equipment, and technology. Represent Texas Health Harris Methodist on system committees and collaborate across the enterprise to advance shared quality, clinical, and operational priorities. Model the executive team's commitment to transparency, shared accountability, collaboration, and respect for expertise. Year One Critical Success Factors During the first year, the Chief Quality and Medical Officer will be expected to: Establish trusted relationships with medical staff leaders, employed and independent physicians, nursing, hospital employees, patients, and community stakeholders, with clear evidence of stronger engagement and alignment. Strengthen the physician-nursing partnership and reinforce a transparent, collaborative executive culture through shared priorities, open communication, and clear accountability. Complete a comprehensive assessment of quality and safety performance, establish baseline measures and priority indicators, and demonstrate initial measurable improvement in targeted outcomes. Develop and begin implementing a multi-year GME strategy that identifies priorities for residency growth, fellowship development, faculty and infrastructure needs, and key academic partnerships. Advance a coordinated physician recruitment and program-development agenda, with defined priorities and early progress in building differentiated tertiary and select quaternary services. The Candidate Experience and Professional Qualifications 5+ years of experience in medical management as a CMO, CQO, or VP Medical Affairs or equivalent experience with evidence of progressively greater responsibility including a significant component of clinical performance improvement and patient safety accountability. Qualified candidates will hold a medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) and be board certified in a medical or surgical specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association. Additionally, it is highly desired that the ideal candidate will hold an MBA, MPG, or another advanced management degree. Medical staff affairs:

Deep knowledge of medical staff governance, credentialing and privileging, bylaws, peer review, regulatory requirements and physician performance, with the judgment to balance accountability, due process and constructive physician engagement.

Graduate medical education:

Experience developing or expanding residency and fellowship programs and strengthening the learning environment, ideally in partnership with academic institutions, faculty, residents and system academic leaders.

Strategic program development:

Ability to translate community need, workforce trends and clinical opportunity into physician recruitment, service-line growth and differentiated tertiary and select quaternary programs.

Collaborative enterprise leadership:

A transparent, team-oriented executive who shares information, respects the expertise of others, contributes actively to strategy and operations, and strengthens the partnership among physicians, nursing and administrative leadership.
