POSITION SUMMARY
The medical director veterinarian role is focused on medical leadership among the team. Leading by example, collaborating with the hospital administrator, and promoting a positive culture is imperative. Promotes and maintains an environment centered around teamwork to deliver the highest standards of medicine and surgical procedures for all patients.WHAT YOU'LL DO
(Essential Functions):- Foster a culture built on our values: Respect, Learning, Do the Right Thing, WOW Service, and Fun
- Maintain premise license and DEA license for the practice. Ensure the premise is in compliance with the Texas Revised Statutes and Administrative Rules. Follow all state and federal laws regarding practicing veterinary medicine. Ensure proper maintenance of controlled substance inventory logs.
- Work with the veterinarians and staff to ensure effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the vision and mission of the organization.
- Demonstrate fair and effective leadership skills to foster a positive culture and collaboration among team members.
- Assist Hospital Administrator with client concerns as it relates to medicine.
- Provide exams, diagnoses, and treatment for diseases and injuries of pets.
- Prescribe medications and perform surgery on pets.
- Work with Hospital Administrator to implement and ensure medical practice policies, quality assurance guidelines, and minimum standards of care are followed.
- Assess and ensure the quality of diagnostic and treatment skills practiced by veterinary technicians, assistants, and medical support staff are above the required basic medical standards.
- Perform other duties and projects as requested.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
(Essential Qualifications):Education :
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree (DVM or VMD)
Professional Licenses/Certifications:
- Medical license with the State Veterinary Board(s) in each state of practice required
DEA License Experience :
- 4+ years clinical veterinary practice preferred
- 2+ years in a leadership role within a small practice preferred
Skills, Ability, and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws and regulations regarding veterinary medicine
- Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, judgement, and problem-solving skills
- Leverage interpersonal skills and technical knowledge to bring people and ideas together to perform effectively
- Delegate responsibilities, coordinate activities, and motivate staff to complete tasks
- Ability to handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Ability to adapt and remain flexible in changing situations and work environments
- Fair and effective leadership skills among doctors, support staff, and other professionals within the industry
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. The team member must frequently use a computer for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities are required to do this job, including close vision. This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for long periods of time. Manual dexterity and precision when treating injuries and performing surgeries is required. The Team Member must sometimes lift, carry, pull and/or move items up to 40 pounds (objects or animals). The work environment may include working with aggressive animals that bite and/or scratch. Position may involve working, nights, weekends and holidays.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
