Job Description

Medical Director - Psychiatrist A mission-driven behavioral health organization in Vermont is seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to serve as Medical Director for its community-based mental health and substance use programs. This is a full-time permanent direct hire position offering the opportunity to combine leadership responsibilities with direct patient care within a collaborative, patient-centered behavioral health environment. Position Overview The Medical Director will provide psychiatric leadership, clinical oversight, and direct patient care across behavioral health programs serving individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. This role partners closely with executive leadership to support evidence-based treatment initiatives, strengthen clinical programming, and ensure high standards of psychiatric care throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and supervision to psychiatrists, medical staff, and contracted providers Deliver direct psychiatric services including evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning Support and oversee medication-assisted treatment and substance use services Assist with development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and psychiatric programming Participate in quality assurance, peer review, utilization review, and risk management initiatives Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated patient care Provide consultation and guidance to clinical staff regarding psychiatric treatment best practices Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and documentation requirements Participate in leadership meetings and organizational planning initiatives Build collaborative relationships with healthcare providers and community partners Participate in on-call coverage as needed Qualifications MD or DO degree required Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry Minimum of 3 years of Psychiatry experience preferred Prior community mental health experience strongly preferred Experience treating patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders required Eligible for unrestricted Vermont medical licensure DEA eligibility required Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills Experience with EMR systems and telehealth platforms preferred Compensation & Benefits Salary up to $325,000 annually Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Flexible scheduling options Paid time off Tuition reimbursement Professional development assistance Employee assistance program This is an outstanding opportunity to join a collaborative organization dedicated to improving access to compassionate, community-focused behavioral healthcare while enjoying the exceptional quality of life Vermont has to offer.
