This position oversees the Veterinary Assistant department and plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, efficient, and welcoming hospital environment. The VA Manager ensures that our facilities and grounds are well maintained, our patients receive a high standard of care and comfort, and our team has the tools, support, and direction needed to perform their jobs effectively. Key Responsibilities Lead monthly Veterinary Assistant staff meetings and gather relevant information from support staff and the Practice Manager to address with the team. Ensure a safe, sanitary, organized, and visually appealing work environment and hospital grounds through effective delegation and, when appropriate, coordination with outside contractors. Oversee communication, performance, and day-to-day operations of the Veterinary Assistant team. Provide guidance, advice, and solutions related to hospital policies, protocols, procedures, and services. Address and resolve client and team conflicts and respond appropriately to informal employee concerns and complaints. Review patient charts for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate documentation by the Veterinary Assistant team. Provide feedback and recommendations to practice owners, managers, and administration regarding hospital operations, profitability, staffing needs, employee advancement, reassignments, scheduling, and other personnel matters affecting the VA team. Develop and implement protocols and policies designed to improve efficiency, workflow, teamwork, and productivity. Recruit, interview, and schedule Veterinary Assistant support staff as needed. Direct and facilitate on-the-job training to develop and strengthen employee skills. Ensure the Veterinary Assistant team consistently demonstrates and upholds the organization's five core values. Conduct employee performance appraisals and communicate performance expectations and progress. Work with employees on corrective measures and performance improvement when necessary. Develop and maintain staff incentives and foster effective communication between employees and management. Lead by example and perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Buffalo Veterinary Group core values. Perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a confident, dependable, and people-focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced veterinary environment. Has a strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, and patient care. Can work collaboratively with veterinarians, managers, support staff, and hospital leadership. Is comfortable making decisions and taking ownership of day-to-day operations. Is flexible and willing to work a varied schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts. Why Join Us? If you're a natural leader who loves veterinary medicine, enjoys developing people, and takes pride in creating an exceptional hospital environment, we want to hear from you!
