Job Description

Metro Eyes Vision Care is looking for an exceptionally reliable, capable, and proactive Practice Manager & Eyewear Consultant to take ownership of the day-to-day operations of our growing optometry practice. This is not a traditional desk-based office manager position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable stepping into whatever needs to be done to keep the practice running smoothly—from managing the front office and verifying insurance to helping patients select eyewear, coordinating lab orders, performing pretesting, and resolving problems before they become bigger problems. The right person is organized, dependable, commercially minded, excellent with patients, and takes genuine ownership of their work. If you are someone who follows through, notices what needs to be done without constantly being reminded, and enjoys being an important part of a growing practice, we would like to meet you. What You Will Do Manage the daily operations and workflow of the practice. Coordinate and support front-office staff and maintain a professional, efficient patient experience. Verify medical and vision insurance eligibility and benefits and accurately communicate patient responsibility. Assist with claims, billing issues, authorizations, and insurance follow-up when needed. Perform patient pretesting and assist with patient flow. Serve as an eyewear consultant and confidently help patients select appropriate frames, lenses, and lens options. Explain vision benefits and out-of-pocket options clearly and professionally. Take appropriate eyewear measurements and coordinate optical orders. Order frames, lenses, contact lenses, and other materials from labs and vendors. Track every order from placement through delivery and proactively resolve delays, errors, remakes, and other issues. Maintain optical inventory, displays, pricing, and vendor relationships. Follow up with patients, laboratories, insurance companies, and vendors without needing repeated reminders. Help ensure claims, payments, orders, records, and daily operational tasks are completed accurately and on time. Step into different areas of the practice when needed and help the team solve problems. Identify opportunities to make the practice more efficient and improve the patient experience.
Who We Are Looking For:
We care more about capability, reliability, judgment, and ownership than a particular job title. The strongest candidate will have experience in optometry, ophthalmology, optical retail, or another medical practice and will understand both patient care and the business side of running an office.
You should be:
Exceptionally reliable and consistent. Highly organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable taking responsibility and making appropriate decisions independently. Someone who follows a task all the way through rather than simply passing it to someone else. A strong communicator who is professional, warm, and confident with patients. Comfortable with sales and able to recommend eyewear without creating a high-pressure sales environment. Able to manage multiple priorities in a busy practice. Comfortable learning new software, insurance systems, products, and procedures. Flexible and willing to help wherever the practice needs you. Able to identify problems and find solutions rather than waiting to be told what to do. Previous optical sales, optician, vision insurance, medical billing, or optometry practice management experience is strongly preferred . Experience with frame and lens ordering, VSP, EyeMed, other vision plans, medical insurance, or optometry practice-management systems is especially valuable. Virginia optician licensure is a plus but is not required for consideration where duties can be performed consistent with applicable requirements. Compensation $25 to $35 per hour plus bonus , depending on experience and demonstrated capabilities. Exceptional candidates with significant optical-management experience may be considered above the posted range. This position does not currently include employer-sponsored benefits. The Person Who Will Succeed Here You may be a particularly strong fit if previous employers would describe you as "the person who makes sure things actually get done." We are looking for someone who wants more than a job description. We want a trusted team member who can learn the practice thoroughly, take ownership of its operations, build strong relationships with patients and staff, and help Metro Eyes Vision Care continue to grow. If that describes the way you work, we encourage you to apply.
