We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Manager to join our team. This position is a great opportunity for a dedicated veterinary medical professional with experience in shelter medicine to join a growing team during an exciting time. Purpose of the role The Veterinary Care Manager is responsible for all veterinary care of SAFe Rescue cats and kittens and management of the veterinary program.

This is a full time, salaried position for a dedicated veterinary professional with experience in shelter medicine. This position interfaces with several departments across the rescue and has contact with staff, volunteers, fosters, donors and consulting veterinary professionals. This position supervises 2 staff members and works closely with a part time DVM. Duties and responsibilities In house Veterinary Care Determine when cats in care need to be seen by a veterinarian and arrange for veterinary care or specialist appointments as needed Perform regular exams, blood draws, testing, and treatment as needed Ensure all animals are current on vaccines and required medications Keep all medical records current and accurate, providing pathway progression information as available Determine when cats are medically cleared for adoption Assist in determining appropriate surgical candidates and scheduling Preparation of anesthesia drugs, and induction of anesthesia, appropriate monitoring during surgery, placement of IV catheters and endotracheal intubation when needed Strict recordkeeping of DEA logbooks Take radiographs when indicated Experience with neonatal kittens (ability to feed with feeding tube and basic care of) Collaborate with Cat Care on dietary, medical and behavioral needs of in-house cats Supervise medical lead of ringworm ward regarding testing and treatment protocols General duties Develop medical protocols and training for veterinary staff (with support from DVM when needed) Supervise and support veterinary program staff members Ensure veterinary department is compliant with relevant veterinary and health & safety laws and train staff accordingly Support staff, foster volunteers and others with medical questions, concerns, or emergencies in a friendly and professional manner Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for saving cats and managing their health in a shelter environment. This role will require the candidate to operate independently for a significant proportion of the time. The candidate should be comfortable speaking to a wide range of individuals; donors, co-workers, volunteers, foster homes and external veterinary professionals.

Required Qualifications include:

LVT Certification and work experience at an animal shelter Able to handle shy, injured, and semi-feral cats safely and understand cat behavior Proficient computer skills in Animal Shelter Manager/ ShelterLuv, Windows and G Suite environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. Technical skills involving ability to perform and interpret fecals, urine sediments, blood draws, ICV placement, intubation, interpret DTM cultures, Woods Lamp scan Preferred Education, Skills, & Experience Skilled at managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail 5 years experience veterinary medicine as a licensed LVT with 2 of those years in Shelter Medicine Experience as an LVT in HVHQSN with anesthesia induction and monitoring Working conditions The position involves direct contact with cats, humans, computers and a variety of cat-related products and may involve potential exposure to zoonotic or infectious pathogens Due to the nature of shelter work, employees may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; hostile or irate persons; parasites, unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; disinfectants and chemicals.
