Medical Records Specialist Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Specialist to join our healthcare team. This role is responsible for managing the collection, review, and submission of medical records and clinical documentation. The primary focus is to support insurance claims processes by ensuring accurate and timely documentation, particularly in the context of appeals for denied claims. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in maximizing reimbursement outcomes through meticulous record management and effective communication with insurance payers. Duties Coordinate the collection, review, and submission of medical records and clinical documentation to insurance payers. Support the appeals process for denied insurance claims by providing necessary documentation promptly and accurately. Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards. Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems for easy retrieval of records. Collaborate with healthcare providers, billing departments, and insurance companies to resolve discrepancies or missing information. Ensure all documentation adheres to privacy laws and confidentiality standards such as HIPAA. Track the status of submitted records and follow up as needed to facilitate timely reimbursement. Assist in maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations related to medical record management. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in health information management is preferred. Prior experience in medical records management, health information technology, or a related field is advantageous. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills for liaising with healthcare providers and insurance representatives. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical record software. Knowledge of healthcare regulations related to medical documentation and patient privacy.
