A Day in the Life of a Medical Records Specialist As a Medical Records Specialist, you help keep our office running smoothly by supporting essential billing and documentation processes.
Your responsibilities include:
Preparing and auditing billing and payment information for accounts payable and receivable Processing physician orders received via fax or mail for billing or clinical follow‑up Ensuring all records remain confidential and compliant with state and federal guidelines Auditing MRC and MCO files for accuracy and filing Reviewing and organizing patient charts to ensure all information is current Maintaining logs of physician orders for billing coordination Participating in weekly case conferences as needed Assisting with general office duties such as answering phones and distributing mail Serving as a backup scheduler and entering referrals when needed Your reliability, communication skills, and attention to detail help ensure smooth operations and high‑quality patient care. Qualifications Associate degree in a related health or financial field At least 2 years of experience in medical records or healthcare billing Proficiency in Word, Excel, and email Strong organizational and communication skills We're looking for someone who communicates clearly, manages time well, solves problems effectively, and maintains a friendly, professional demeanor.
