Job Description

Our Behavioral Health division is seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist that will be a hybrid position located in North Dakota. As our Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist, you will play an important role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of client health records while supporting providers and care teams behind the scenes. In this role, you will manage and maintain client information within the electronic health record system, including correcting clinician documentation errors, scanning and uploading incoming records, merging duplicate files, and updating demographic information to ensure records remain accurate and complete. You will process disclosures through the electronic health record system in accordance with established guidelines outlined in the Department of Health and Human Services confidentiality manual, 42 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Part 2, and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act) regulations. This includes determining which records can be released, identifying restricted information, and ensuring all authorizations meet statutory and regulatory requirements before records are disclosed. You will also communicate with providers and internal teams to ensure required documentation is received, completed accurately, and submitted in a timely manner. In this position, your work will directly support providers and help ensure individuals receive the services and care they need. You will serve as a reliable resource by helping maintain compliance standards and supporting the overall quality and integrity of health information management practices. To thrive in this role, you should have a strong desire to continuously learn and build knowledge related to healthcare laws, policies, and confidentiality requirements. You will need to stay informed of changes in regulations and procedures so you can confidently support providers and staff with compliance-related questions and documentation needs. You should be comfortable managing multiple priorities throughout the day and able to shift focus quickly when urgent matters arise. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will work across several platforms and interact with a wide range of individuals, including providers, staff, and external partners. Attention to detail and a data-driven mindset will also be important, as accuracy and consistency are critical when managing sensitive health information. To be considered for this position, you must have one of the following combinations. An associates degree in a business, office or customer service field and two (2) years of experience in a business, office or customer service setting. A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of four years of professional business, office or customer service setting A bachelor's degree in a business, office or customer service-related field may substitute for years of professional experience.
