JOB SUMMARY
Performs health information management functions related to the analysis, maintenance, and release of medical records in accordance with organizational policies and applicable state and federal regulations. Processes requests for health information while ensuring compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and security standards. Supports the integrity and quality of the health record through accurate documentation review and timely completion of assigned HIM workflows.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses:
Preferred but not required: Ahima Release of Information Microcredential or Information Release and Compliance Specialist Certification through IHIC.
Job Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of health information management principles, medical record content, and documentation standards within an acute care or healthcare setting. Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and clinical documentation practices. Ability to analyze electronic health records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. Understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and release-of-information standards, including HIPAA. Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and standard office technology to support HIM workflows. Previous experience in a Health Information Management department within an acute care facility is preferred but not required.
