Job Description

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for answering phones, scheduling office appointments and triaging calls. Provides patients with needed information regarding appointments and services in order to maintain an efficient patient flow for the doctors. Experience with eClinical works a plus. Medical Assistant experience also a plus.
Job Duties:
1. Schedules various office visit types for patients, gathers specific information about type of health problems they are having, referral source, demographics and insurance information. Documents notes pertaining to the visit. 2. Receives faxed and electronic referrals, contacts the patients to schedule office appointments and registers the patient. 3. Receives a variety of calls that are non-appointment related and triages those calls to send to the appropriate person. 4. Handles rescheduling of patients and documentation for the rescheduling. Calls on no show and cancelled appointments and documents reason for cancellation. 5. Coordinates wait listing of patients who want to be scheduled sooner. 6. Faxes a medical records request to the referring provider on all new patients or patients with a new problem being scheduled. 7. Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in order to comply with HIPPA and Practice requirements. 8. Supports the fax inbox distribution and will learn front office duties. 9. Performs all other duties or assume responsibilities as directed by the supervisor, physicians or other staff to maintain the office flow and support the goals of the Practice.
Skills and Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED. Minimum of one (1) year previous patient scheduling experience in a general surgery setting preferred. Knowledge of insurance plans, medical terminology, medical office software and patient billing. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Able to multitask, prioritize work, be flexible and detail oriented, and a team player with a positive attitude. Maintain a high level of patient confidentiality.
