MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST - NEUROSURGICAL PRACTICE

Full-Time We are seeking a professional, compassionate, organized, and experienced Medical Receptionist to join our busy Neurosurgical practice. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of medical receptionist experience, strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask effectively in a very fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate understands that neurosurgical patients may be experiencing significant pain, anxiety, or frustration and must be able to handle challenging interactions with empathy, patience, kindness, and professionalism.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Greet and assist patients in a professional, welcoming, and compassionate manner. Answer and manage a high volume of incoming phone calls. Navigate challenging and sensitive phone calls with patience, empathy, kindness, and professionalism. Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments. Process and maintain medical records accurately and efficiently. Receive, scan, organize, and route incoming faxes to the appropriate department or staff member. Monitor, respond to, and appropriately route patient and office emails in a timely and professional manner. Prepare and organize patient charts for upcoming appointments, ensuring necessary records and documentation are available. Verify and update patient demographics, insurance information, referrals, and authorizations as needed. Demonstrate working knowledge and experience with ICD-10 and CPT codes. Assist with accurate documentation and communication between patients, providers, and clinical staff. Maintain accurate and organized electronic and paper medical records. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Collect copays, deductibles, and other patient balances when applicable. Communicate effectively with physicians, medical assistants, billing staff, and other members of the healthcare team. Handle difficult or sensitive situations professionally and know when to escalate concerns appropriately. Multitask and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a very fast-paced, high-volume medical environment. Maintain an organized, efficient, and positive front-office environment. Complete daily administrative tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 3 years of medical receptionist/front-office experience required. Previous experience with ICD-10 and CPT codes required. Experience working in a specialty medical practice preferred; neurosurgical or orthopedic experience is a plus. Strong computer and electronic medical record (EMR) skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining accuracy. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Must be a team player who works well and maintains positive relationships with coworkers. Must be receptive to constructive criticism, feedback, coaching, and advice, with a willingness to learn and improve. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to communicate with patients in a calm, respectful, empathetic, and compassionate manner. Professional demeanor and reliable attendance. Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with upset, frustrated, or anxious patients. Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.
