Job Description

Nemours is seeking a part-time weekends (Saturday and Sunday) day shift (7A-7P) Unit Clerk to join our Med/Surg team in Orlando, FL . The Unit Clerk is responsible for all clerical, reception and secretarial support on the assigned nursing unit. Works collaboratively with the nursing staff and physicians and effectively communicates and assists with patient and family needs. Incumbent will provide exceptional customer service by promptly greeting and assisting all staff, patients, family members and visitors with courtesy, concern and respect. She/he will be responsible for insuring pertinent and timely communication of patient care and unit related needs departmentally and interdepartmentally. Required Responsibilities Gives a complete report to charge nurse and/or on-coming shift, related to new patients, transfers, discharges and pending issues. Facilitates the communication of pertinent information to appropriate members of the health care team. Accurately assembles, labels, maintains, and dissembles any paper aspects of a patient chart upon admission through discharge and prepares them for Health Information Management in a timely manner, for scanning into the electronic medical record. Provides timely printing of electronic charts as necessary and requested. Initiates verbal, written and /or electronic requests to other departments accurately and timely. Attempts to meet patient/family requests with care and respect and effectively solves patient problems/needs through appropriate communication. Maintains adequate stock of office supplies, paper and forms for the unit. Uses appropriate and courteous telephone etiquette by managing calls promptly and effectively communicates information to team members. Assists as requested in transport of lab specimens, blood products and patients. Willingly cross covers for patient care tech in her/his absence Serves as a receptionist for the nursing unit by: Greeting patients, families, guest and clinical staff when they enter the unit Locating resources, patients and nurses for individuals Relaying messages and information as indicated Assists with visitor control Utilizes the communication console to answer patient calls, locate nursing personnel and relay information in an appropriate, timely and pleasant manner Tracks patient census and patient movement to other areas assuring that electronic record has the patient in the correct location Position Requirements 1 year of training beyond high school; High School Diploma or GED Completion of a Medical Terminology Course American Heart Association BLS required upon hire Minimum of 6 months experience required Understanding of basic office skills, including proficiency in the use of computers.
