Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team! In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly, verify their insurance information, and assist with check-in procedures using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth. Schedule patient appointments accurately, coordinate follow-up visits, and manage calendar updates using medical scheduling software. Verify insurance coverage, process payments, and handle collections related to medical billing and coding, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 codes, and Medicare claims. Maintain and update patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, ensuring confidentiality of sensitive health information. Answer multi-line phone systems professionally, provide excellent customer service, and direct calls appropriately. Review documentation for accuracy, assist with medical record requests, and support clinical staff with administrative tasks such as filing and data entry. Support clinic operations by managing office supplies, organizing files (both digital and paper), and assisting with intake procedures for new patients. Requirements Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office administrative role with clinic or hospital experience preferred. Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Athenahealth; familiarity with Eaglesoft or Dentrix is a plus for dental clinics. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing skills (10 key typing). Understanding of health insurance processes including verification, billing procedures, Medicare/Medicaid policies, and health information management. Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical confidentiality policies (HIPAA), and documentation review standards. Ability to communicate effectively via phone etiquette in a professional manner; bilingual skills are highly desirable. Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in filing, data entry, and appointment scheduling. Strong interpersonal skills to provide outstanding patient service in a busy healthcare setting.
