Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first or last point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience from the time they enter our office into the very end of their visit. Your responsibilities will inclue managing patient appointments, verifying insurance information, maintaining accurate medical records, and providing exceptional customer service in office and on the phone. The ideal candidate will possess strong clerical skills, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a thorough understanding of medical terminology and healthcare administrative procedures. Responsibilities Greet patients warmly and professionally, ensuring they are taken care of at the beginning and end of their visit, getting them set-up with their next follow up. Schedule appointments efficiently using clinic management software such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks. Verify patient insurance coverage and process medical collections accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems including Athenahealth, Meditech, and other EMR platforms to ensure precise documentation review and updates. Handle phone communication with patients, providers, and insurance companies using proper phone etiquette. Collect and process payments related to medical billing, CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, Medicare claims, and other health insurance procedures. Maintain organized medical records, ensure confidentiality of sensitive information according to clinical confidentiality policies, and perform filing as needed. Assist with clinical documentation review and support care plan documentation to facilitate seamless patient care delivery. Perform administrative tasks such as data entry with 10-key typing skills, managing office supplies, and supporting overall medical office management. Experience Prior clinic or medical office experience is highly preferred; but are willing to train, familiarity with hospital or dental clinic environments is a plus. Demonstrated proficiency in EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is essential. Strong knowledge of health insurance processes including Medicare billing and health information management practices. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively via phone and in person while maintaining professionalism at all times. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards and clinical confidentiality policies is required.
