Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Unit Secretary to join our medical/surgical team at our Jackson, MI facility. In this full-time position, you will provide essential administrative support to the 6SE Renal/Oncology unit, serving as a key liaison between patients, clinical staff, and other departments. Your organizational skills and efficiency will directly contribute to the smooth operation of our unit and the quality of patient care we deliver.
Manage patient scheduling, admissions, and discharge procedures while maintaining accurate recordsAnswer multi-line phones and direct calls to appropriate staff members with professionalism and courtesyMaintain and organize medical records, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all timesInput and update patient information in electronic health records (EHR) systems with accuracy and attention to detailCoordinate communication between nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital departmentsPrepare and distribute unit correspondence, reports, and documentationGreet patients and visitors, providing directions and assistance as neededAssist with unit-based administrative tasks including supply ordering and inventory managementSupport clinical staff by preparing patient charts and gathering necessary documentationRespond to patient inquiries and concerns with empathy and professionalismMaintain a clean and organized front desk and administrative workspaceQualificationsProven experience as a unit secretary, medical secretary, or similar administrative role in a healthcare settingStrong knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare operationsProficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office SuiteExcellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasksStrong written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentKnowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirementsProfessional demeanor with strong customer service orientationAbility to work varied shifts as needed for unit operations
