Job Description
Overview Lakewood Podiatry is seeking a Medical Receptionist/Billing Assistant, where your energetic and welcoming attitude will set the tone for exceptional patient experiences. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring smooth clinic operations through efficient scheduling, accurate documentation, and compassionate customer service. Your expertise in medical administrative support and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems will drive the success of our healthcare delivery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a caring environment while honing your skills in a medical office. Duties Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent front desk customer service and phone etiquette. Schedule appointments accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such Athenahealth. Verify patient insurance coverage, process payments, and handle medical collections with attention to detail and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Manage medical records and documentation review to ensure accuracy and confidentiality in accordance with clinical confidentiality policies. Assist with medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10), and care plan documentation to support accurate reimbursement processes. Coordinate patient flow within the clinic, including appointment confirmations and follow-up scheduling. Maintain proficiency in office software like Microsoft Office and demonstrate strong computer skills for efficient data entry and record keeping. Skills Proven experience in medical office administration or as a medical receptionist within a medical environment. Knowledge of Athenahealth, or familiarity with electronic health records management is essential. Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to handle phone communication professionally and courteously. Knowledge of health insurance procedures, Medicare guidelines, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and medical billing practice Prior clinic is preferred; familiarity with health insurance processes enhances your effectiveness in this role.
