Perform secretarial duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Duties include scheduling appointments, billing patients, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence. How does it get done? The incumbent in this position will perform highly specialized work requiring knowledge of technical terminology and procedures as well as transcribe dictation, prepare correspondence, and assist physicians or medical scientists with reports, speeches, articles, and conference proceedings. The incumbent will also record simple medical histories, arrange for patients to be hospitalized, and order supplies and will need to be familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures. Who are the customers? Patients, residents and staff members. Ideal Candidate Patients, residents and staff members. Minimum Qualification High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience providing administrative support in a healthcare setting, to include experience in CPT coding and/or medical. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess a valid driver's license and successfully pass a background check. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with extensive computer and phone usage. Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds and working weekends, Holiday's and overtime may be required.
