Duties Greet patients warmly, verify appointment details, and check-in/check-out efficiently using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks. Schedule appointments accurately, manage patient flow, and coordinate with clinical staff to optimize daily operations. Collect and process payments, including medical collections and insurance co-pays, utilizing health insurance knowledge and billing procedures. Verify patient insurance coverage, explain benefits, and assist with health information management in compliance with HIPAA confidentiality policies. Review medical documentation for accuracy, ensuring proper coding with CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards. Handle phone communication with professionalism, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and effective communication skills. Maintain organized medical records and electronic health records (EHR) management while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies. Support clinical staff by reviewing documentation, managing medical records, and assisting with care plans as needed. Skills Proven experience in a dental or medical office environment with strong clerical skills and office experience. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with electronic health records management is essential. Knowledge of health insurance processes including Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA regulations, and health information management practices. Strong medical terminology understanding along with experience in medical billing, coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and documentation review. Excellent customer service skills paired with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities. Bilingual capabilities are highly valued to serve diverse patient populations effectively. Adept at using Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and scheduling tasks; typing speed of at least 10 key strokes per second is preferred. Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced clinic setting while maintaining attention to detail. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical confidentiality policies along with strong organizational skills for filing and record keeping.
