Job Description

Functioning within the Health System's mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Unit Secretary/PCT functions as a partner to the Registered Nurse with the goal of providing quality patient care. In addition to patient care, the Unit Secretary/Patient Care Tech performs a variety of clerical tasks as needed. Responsibilities include scheduling cases in a timely manner and facilitating communication within the unit with management and charge nurse(s) as well as with other Health System departments to ensure appropriate scheduling, including but not limited to block time and ensuring necessary staff and equipment are available to perform cases scheduled by both physicians and their office staff.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED) is preferred. Additional education in medical terminology and/or clerical skills is preferred. Must successfully complete LMHS Sec/PCT orientation program and demonstrate competency on all skills.
Licensure/Certification:
Current BLS required or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Must prove successful completion of an approved nurse aide training and competency program; OR Actively registered as an STNA in the State of Ohio (preferred); OR As an RN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Nursing Associate's Degree or diploma program or be a 2nd year student in a B.S.N program; OR As an LPN student, have completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a Licensed Practical Nurse Training Program.
Experience:
Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech or Unit Secretary and experience with EMR and Meditech is preferred.
Skills:
Must have excellent "customer service" skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must have basic computer skills, including the ability to schedule cases in Meditech. Must be able to print and write legibly and accurately. Possess the ability to calculate simple mathematics and follow instructions.
