Job Description

About the Role We are a private ophthalmology practice seeking a skilled and dependable Medical Ophthalmic Scribe to join our close-knit clinical team. You will work side-by-side with our physicians to document patient encounters in real time, ensuring accurate and complete records while our providers remain fully focused on patient care. Bilingual Spanish/English speakers are strongly encouraged to apply. Compensation & Schedule Hourly rate: $23-$28 per hour, based on experience Full-time position with consistent daytime hours Benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage Paid time off and observed holidays Key Responsibilities Accompany physicians during patient examinations and transcribe clinical notes, findings, and treatment plans into the EHR in real time Document chief complaints, medical histories, and ophthalmic exam findings including visual acuity, IOP, slit-lamp results, fundus findings, and more Prepare patient charts prior to appointments, ensuring prior records, referrals, and diagnostic results are on file Enter orders for diagnostic testing, medications, and referrals as directed by the physician Facilitate clear communication with patients, including Spanish-speaking patients where applicable Ensure full HIPAA compliance and maintain strict patient confidentiality Support smooth patient flow in coordination with the front office and clinical staff
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in a health-related field is a plus Minimum 1 year of experience as a medical scribe, ophthalmic technician, or in a clinical support role Strong typing speed and accuracy (50+ WPM) Working knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical workflows Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Comfortable learning and navigating EHR software
Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish and English — strongly preferred Prior experience in an ophthalmology or surgical subspecialty setting Familiarity with ophthalmic conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration Experience with EHR platforms such as Epic, Modernizing Medicine (EMA), or similar systems Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (COS) or completion of a formal scribe training program What We Offer Competitive pay of $23-$28/hour commensurate with experience Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and paid holidays Supportive, team-oriented practice environment Hands-on exposure to a wide range of ophthalmic subspecialties and procedures Opportunity to grow within our practice
