Position Summary The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting nursing staff within an inpatient behavioral health and drug rehabilitation setting. This position is responsible for the safe and accurate administration of prescribed medications under nursing supervision, while ensuring compliance with physician orders, facility policies, and state and federal regulations. The CMA contributes to patient safety, comfort, and recovery by monitoring medication effectiveness, documenting care accurately, and fostering a supportive, therapeutic environment.

SCHEDULE

PRN flexibility on which days Key Responsibilities Medication Administration Administer prescribed medications accurately under nursing supervision. Document medication administration in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR). Monitor patients for side effects or adverse reactions and report concerns promptly. Ensure proper medication handling and storage according to safety standards. Medication Management Maintain organized, compliant medication storage areas. Assist with medication inventory and supply management. Patient Care & Interaction Provide compassionate, respectful support to patients during detoxification and rehabilitation. Offer clear education regarding medications when appropriate. Support nursing staff with basic patient care duties as needed. Clinical & Administrative Support Maintain accurate documentation and uphold strict confidentiality standards. Adhere to infection control procedures and safety protocols. Collaborate effectively with nursing, clinical, and peer support teams. Follow HIPAA guidelines and all applicable state and federal regulations. QualificationsEducation Completion of a state-approved Medication Aide training program. Licensure/Certification Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification recognized by the State of Kentucky. Experience Prior experience in healthcare or long-term care preferred. Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems preferred. Knowledge & Skills Understanding of medication classifications, dosage calculations, and administration techniques. Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality laws. Familiarity with infection control procedures. Awareness of Drug-Free Workplace and Workplace Violence policies. Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Ability to work effectively in emotionally sensitive environments. Work Environment Inpatient behavioral health facility providing 24/7 care. Temperature-controlled indoor setting (80-90% of time indoors). Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues may occur during routine tasks. PPE provided. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Environment may be emotionally challenging due to detox and rehabilitation care.
